The Launch Of Axeon Cycling Team Announced

The launch of Axeon Cycling Team was announced by the retired professional cyclist Axel Merckx on Wednesday.

The 2014’s results of the U23 program stood out among all the results till date as it was the strongest. The stage wins of Ruben Zepuntke and the GC podium of the Tour of Alberta as well as the second position finish of Greg Daniels in stage 4 of Tour of California is what gave the team such a strong report.

Axel Merckx said that his only aim is to create a legacy for the team and start the program with a strong name which will stay for a long time. He believes that they have the riders for 2015 that are the best in the world. If the hard work they are continuing is kept up and the attention used in the right way, the team will become a team that the young riders would want to join and the alumni will consist of the pros.

The Axeon is a UCI Continental team for the year 2015 and was founded in 2009 originally. It’s the then goal was to turn the young talents into professionals. Till the day the program began and today, the team has sent 18 such riders to ProTour ranks. Among them are Joe Dombrowski (Cannondale Garmin),Lawson Craddock (Giant-Shimano),Ben King (Garmin-Sharp),Jasper Stuyven (Trek Factory Racing) and Taylor Phinney (BMC Racing).

The next races to come up on 2015 for Axeon Cycling are USA Pro Cycling Challenge, Tour of California,U23 Paris Roubaix and the Tour of Utah. The 60% of riders would have to be citizens of America as the team will still be registered in USA. There will 10 riders from all over the world and only two newcomers from junior ranks.
