Evans has best chance to win the Tour de France

There is absolutely no doubt in anybody’s mind that this year is Cadel Evan’s best chance to win his second Tour de France title. The 100th edition of the world’s most popular cycling event is being held this year and Evans would certainly want to take home the second yellow jersey now.

The champion of 2011 has indicated that he is tracking pretty well this year with a third position at the Tour of Oman behind rival general classification riders, the 27 year old Chris Froome of Team Sky and Alberto Contador, the star of Saxo-Tinkoff.

The 2009 world champion did not have a very good 2012 after the year was turned upside down with to his prolonged illness as the result of which he could achieve only the seventh position at the Tour de France. He also had to withdraw from the London Olympics due to the illness, leaving his fans dismayed.

However, a solid start to the 2013 season has proved that the viral infection that was troubling Evans last year is a thing of the past now and this year his fans can accept some amazing results from him.

The 36 year old has said that he was raring to go at the Tour de France. He would certainly be looking forward to match the stamina of the likes of Wiggins, Contador and Froome’s but one of Evans’ biggest threats is likely to be from within his team. Last year, American Tejay van Garderen impressed all with his performance and clearly showed that he had the ability to lead the team in the absence of Evans. Garderen will definitely be someone to watch out for at the Tour de France this year.

Whether it is really Evans’ time to get back the yellow jersey is something that only time can tell.
